Hi there! My name is April Sheninger. I am an instructional designer in Student Affairs at Penn State. I was recently
hired by Student Affairs to design and develop cocurricular learning modules after working for the last 7 years in
Training Services as the Web-based Training Specialist. I have been using the Web for more years than I
care to admit and have loved learning all of my life. Combining the two made a whole lot of sense to me, so
I enrolled in the Instructional Systems Master's program as a part-time student. I graduated in 2006 with a
Masters in Education. I also graduated with a B.S. in Rehabilitation Services Education in 1992 from
Penn State too. I guess you could say I bleed blue and white. Work, learn and play, the Penn State way!

My Favorite Quote

"Computers are incredibly fast, accurate and stupid.
Human beings are incredibly slow, inaccurate and brilliant.
Together they are powerful beyond imagination."

My Educational Background

B.S. in Rehabilitation Services Education, Pennsylvania State University, 1992

  • Rehabilitation Services Education is a counseling program. I concentrated my studies on Drug and Alcohol
Addictions Counseling. The program is semi-interdisciplinary in that I received a very well rounded education.
Although I never counseled, I would have to say the program was worth the work and has helped me in my
    other jobs.
M.Ed. in Instructional Systems, Pennsylvania State University, 2005
  • Instructional Systems is an excellent program that combines traditional educational theories with
new technologies. It is project-based and experiential in nature. I concentrated my studies on Learning
Technologies. For my course work, I usually chose Web-based projects because of my interest in exploiting
the World Wide Web for educational purposes.
My Professional Background

October 1993-June 2000, Copyright Clearance Office, Document Services, Pennsylvania State University

  • I worked in and then managed the office for about 7 years. I have spoken at conferences
and written articles on the importance of copyright clearance in a university setting.
July 2000 to 2007, Training Services, Information Technology Services, Pennsylvania State University
  • I worked in ITS Training Services for over 7 years. I was the Instructional Designer and Program Manager
    for the WBT service.
