IST Apathy...
As an active member on the IST Exec Board, a problem we face day to day is looking for ways to get students involved. We need a way to let students know about all the IST events that are put on throughout each week. Of our three news sources, the Magazine of IST is redoing their website yet again, IST2u seems untrafficked, and the IST website's news feed is informative, but occasionally above student's heads. With the help of Facebook, it has been easier to reach out to kids in the IST community, but I still hear comments from students such as, "I didn't hear about that (whatever it was) happening this week."
This has been an increasingly frustrating issue that leaves many well-planned and thought out initiatives struggling to find students to participate. As I see it, it boils down to the responsibility of the student to be aware of what is going on in their surroundings. Even if there was a way to guarantee that every undergrad at least knew of the many events going on, there is no way to be sure that they will show up. The Exec Board and out media director are working hard to post any and all events onto IST2U, so it would be nice if the general population responded by participating.
