LESSON 1:  Characteristics of Animals

Log on to SuccessNet and sign in to your account.  Once you are logged into your account, follow the directions below.

    1. On the left of the screen, click the ANIMALS book - Student Edition.

      (It has the giraffe on the cover.)

    2. Next, click on Lesson 1, then lesson 1.1: What is an animal?

    3. Before you begin reading about animals, here are a few notes.

        * Animals are made up of cells, organs, tissues, and systems.

        * The major functions of animals are to obtain food and oxygen, keep

           internal conditions stable, move, and reproduce.

    4. Read "Structures and Functions of Animals."

        (Click on the sound to have the text read to you.)

           * As you are reading, write down the definitions of these words:

              cells, organs, tissues, and systems in your Science Vocabulary Journal.

    5.  What have you learned?  Take the quiz below.
