I am a second year master's student in the Geography department at Penn State University.  My research interests lie in biogeography, specifically carnivore migration, plant and animal distributions, island biogeography, evolution, extinction, and anthropogenic influence.  During the summer of 2007, I conducted research on mustelids in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota.   I looked for American martens (Martes americana) and fishers (Martes penanti) to determine their whereabouts and how one might be able to better predict their locations.  I am still in the process of data crunching and plan on presenting my work at a few conferences this year, including the annual AAG meeting in Boston this April.

I have become very interested in feminism and social justice.  I recently read several good books concerning these topics by individuals such as Patricia Hill Collins, Julie Bettie, and Andrea Smith.  I try to stay up to speed on current events, and enjoy reading magazines such as Adbusters for a refreshing perpective on today's society and media at large.  I also listen to Democracy Now podcasts as much as possible.

I received my B.S. from Montana State University in Bozeman in Geography.  I did not specialize in human, physical, nature-society, or GIS; I chose to complete a minor in Spanish.  I studied in Salamanca, Espaņa one summer and fell in love with the country and the language.

My hobbies include skiing, hiking, reading, being crafty, listening to good music and attending concerts.  Eventually I hope to be a college professor or work for a non-profit research agency out West.  Until that happens, I plan to graduate with my master's degree, save some money, and live in Central or South America for a while to brush up on my spanish and to, well, live.
