My Research Interests:

My primary area of research interest is that of Second Language Acquisition, especially as it relates to the acquisition of Spanish by native speakers of English in a University classroom context. Specifically, I am interested in the creation of welformed curricula and testing materials. With respect to curricula I am interested in researching the relative merits of exposing students to as wide a range of Spanish, with regards to vocabulary and grammar, as possible as opposed to those of only exposing them to the most frequently occuring items. With regards to testing materials I am most interested in researching how to most objectively test for the ability to speak Spanish with a desired level of proficiency. Nevertheless, all areas of Spanish Second Language Acquisition are of interest to me.

My Current Research:

Currently I am working with Dr. Maragret Quesada on preparing some of our research, on the effects of speach rate on the perception of grammar, vocabulary, fluency, pronunciation and communication in a classic Spanish oral exam format, for publishing. Additionally, I am working on preparing some of my research about the diachronic and synchronic distributions of the Spanish discourse markers 'por tanto' and 'por lo tanto' for publication.
