I'm Hatin' It

If there is one thing I wish everyone on the planet could know, it would be the truth about fast food, specifically the most widespread and successful fast-food chain, McDonalds. It is devestating that over 62 million people eat that "food" on a daily basis. Many find it surprising, but I never have and NEVER will put one crumb of McDonalds into my body. You might be wondering how I survive. Many of you might not be able to go one week, or maybe even one day, without a Bic Mac or McFlurry. But my question to you McDonalds lovers is, Do you really know what you're putting into your body? And if you did know, would you still do it? Through this entry, I'm hoping to convince at least one person to never walk into that sad excuse for a restaurant again and therefore lead a healthier and happier life.

It is safe to assume that everyone knows McDonald's is not the healthiest option calorie-wise. But there is SO much more that people don't know. Here is a list of facts that will undoubtedly lead some to delete McDonald's from their lives forever.
1) Many of McDonald's menu items contain a chemical preservative called tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ). 5 grams of this preservative causes death, that's how toxic it is.
2) The ingredients of Chicken McNuggets: "sodium phosphates; bleached wheat flour (nutrients removed); food starch-modified (likely genetically-modified); dextrose (sugar); partially hydrogenated soybean oil and cottonseed oil with mono-and diglycerides, (trans fats); Prepared in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil) (trans fats)TBHQ, tertiary butylhydroquinonea petroleium dervived product; Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent (a form of silicone used in cosmetics, and Silly Putty)." That is taken straight from McDonald's website. Shouldn't the only ingredient be chicken?!
3) In an experiment called the Happy Meal Project, a burger and pack of fries lasted undecayed for 143 days.
4) A man in Utah kept his McDonald's burger for 14 years, and it looked exactly the same as the day he bought it in 1999.
5) A strawberry milkshake at McDonald's contains over 50 chemicals used to immitate the strawberry flavor.
6) The cows slaughtered for McDonald's beef are raised to eat the cheapest food, are fattened up with hormones and antibiotics and live in extremely dirty environements where they stand in their own manure. This makes for a burger full of bacteria and hormones.
7) A simple McDonald's bun has over 20-30 extra ingredients. All you need to make a bun is flour, water, and salt.

Here's what your delicious McNugget's are actually made of!

What is this pink sludge? This depicts a process called mechanical separation. The reason for it is because McDonald's is cheap, of course, and wants to use the most cost-effective way of smoothing the bone remnents of the chicken. In addition, the meat is washed in ammonia to get rid of the excess bacteria that comes from mechanical separation. But wait, the meat would taste bad if it were ammonia flavored! No worries, McDonald's just artificially reflavors it and adds some good old food dye to make it look like actual food! YUM!

Don't believe me? You will after watching this. I highly recommend watching the whole documentary (Supersize Me). I guaruntee you will never want to eat fast food again. Food Inc. is also another reputable documentary that exposes all of the shocking truths behind the fast food industry.

People decide that fast food is worth it because of the affordable price, the convenience of a quick meal, and the good taste; however, health should come first and foremost. Making a financial sacrifice now to invest in healthy and nourishing food will save a person the finances of  health problems later on.

I hope at least a few of you are convinced and can give this up for good. Yes, McDonald's will advertise that they are offering healthy options, because they know that is what paying customers are looking for. Just remember that this is a scam! Choose for yourself what you want to put in your body. You alone are responsible for your health and well-being. Make the right choice and I guarantee you will feel happier and healthier.

You have left me disgusted and speechless. I've seen the movie Supersize Me and I've read about the ingredients in McDonald's products, yet every time I read those facts again I am just as grossed out as I was the first time I heard about it. I used to eat McDonalds all the time when I was a little kid. Now, I yell at my parents all the time for letting me eat such disgusting food. The picture to have above instantly makes me lose my appetite and almost gag. The crazy thing to think about is that people know these facts and have seen pictures like this, yet it doesn't seem to affect how much they love McDonalds. I understand people can be in a rush sometimes and they only have time to eat at fast food restaurants. However, you don't have to be as unhealthy as you may think when you're in a rush. Click on the link below for some tips to stay healthy even when you're short on time!

Wait, WHAT?! I know McDonald's is bad, but I had no idea it was this bad... It's extremely alarming that doing all of this is even legal! More importantly, how is this even considered "food"?! I think a lot of Americans look for fast, cheap, and easy meals - and let's face it - McDonald's falls into all three of those categories. Do we know the truth about fast food and ignore it, or do we just not care? Regardless, our eating habits are horrible. Here's some examples: http://www.dosomething.org/tipsandtools/11-facts-about-american-eating-habits

This is horrible! I am completely turned off from McDonald's right now. Sure I've heard of this before but to actually read about it for myself makes it even worse! The pink sludge is what got me the most, utterly disgusting! In 11th grade my English teacher tried to show my class a video on what goes on behind closed doors of the chicken and beef we love so much. I tried not to watch the whole thing because I knew I'd be tempted to become a vegetarian and I couldn't have that because I love meat too much! Do you think McDonald's does this with their new "Mighty Wings"? I'm too scared to try them, just the thought of McDonald's and chicken wings does not sit well with me. Here's a pretty disturbing video of the meat industry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wceJjcdEaFw

There are certain things you never really want to know, and this is definitely one of them! I think it's horrible that we consider this "food" at all! I have seen a lot of studies done about McDonalds, like Super Size me, but I never ever saw pictures like this. I think it's pathetic that such a company could sell this type of thing for people to eat, I can't believe it! I think you did a great job of backing up all of your information with real life facts, even if they are terrible. This is definitely one more reason why I don't want to eat at McDonalds! Here is some more information about the genetically engineered "chicken"!
