During pregnancy you might feel like it is the best time to sit back, relax, and do nothing. But, according to The Mayo Clinic exercising while pregnant "can help you stay in shape and prepare for labor and delivery" Mayo Clinic Staff.

In the article Pregnancy and exercise: Baby, lets move!, The Mayo Clinic discusses everything you need to know about getting healthy exercise with your new baby.

The Mayo Clinic provides numerous examples of why exercising can only benefit the female during pregnancy:

During pregnancy, exercise can:

-Ease or prevent back pain and other discomforts

-Boost your mood and energy levels

These are just some of the ways that exercise can aid in the pregnancy process and it only helps the female have a better pregnancy. Only 30 minutes a day can be just enough to get your heart rate flowing and keep you active while pregnant. It is so important to maintain exercise while pregnant because it keeps the female healthy while making sure the baby is too.

Besides just working out on your own, there are many classes you can take while pregnant that provide fun and motivational ways to exercise with your spouse or friend. Although, it is always important to listen to your body when exercising. Taking it slow and learning what you can and cannot do is the first and most important step.

I know when my mom was pregnant with me she went to classes all the time. Her favorite activity was swimming because it kept weight off of her feet for the most part and she was still able to get a nice work out!

I think two of the main reasons for exercising while pregnant is 1) to prevent unealthy weight gain and 2) to elevate the mother's mood and optimism. For me, exercise is the key to a productive day and a good mood. I'm sure the same goes for pregnant mothers. It is important for them to stay healthy and happy so that their baby can be healthy and happy. Another effect of exercise is stress relief. A stressed mom makes for possible health problems which could affect the baby. With light and healthy exercise, a pregnant mother can release stress, stay in shape, and remain optimistic and happy. All of this benefits the baby.
