Do Microwaves Cause Cancer?

I have come to the fact that I would not be able to live without a microwave.  Yes, that is quite dramatic, but in all seriousness, I use one every single day and have since before I can remember.  While microwaves are such a staple in our everyday lives, are they dangerous?  Many people have said "microwaves cause cancer", but is that really true?  I decided to do some research to figure out the truth about microwaves.  It has already been proven that radiation causes cancer, but many people believe that all radiation causes cancer. According to The American Cancer Society, many types of radiation don't cause cancer.  Radiation types that come from things like nuclear reactors and x-rays on the other hand, have been known to cause some types of cancer.  So where do microwaves come in?  Believe it or not, microwaves are one of the main forms of radiation.  An older experiment that took place was in 1989, concerning microwaved foods.  Dr. Hans Hertel conducted the experiment with 8 people.  For 8 weeks, the people lived in a controlled environment, eating only intermittently raw foods, conventionally cooked foods and microwaved foods.  After each meal, their blood was drawn and tested after each meal.  Over time, they discovered that eating microwaved food, causes significant changes in blood chemistry.  In other words, they had a decrease in hemoglobin and cholesterol values, in the HDL versus LDL ratio and in white blood cells, weakening the immune system, and an increase in leukocyte levels.  This tends to indicate poisoning and cell damage.  Overall, they concluded that with this study, microwaved foods could cause disease or cancer.  Many people disagree with these findings, saying that microwaves do cause radiation, but don't have the effect on foods and people that the experiment shows.  I for one believe that microwaved food is safe enough to eat, not because of an experiment, but because I have been eating it my whole life and have yet to become sick from it.  What do you think?

As far as I have researched, microwaves aren't cancer machines. I do remember my parents once telling me to take my face off of the window of the microwave on day(I was REALLY hungry, ok) because it would give me cancer. Since then I haven't done it again but I also looked into whether microwaves cause cancer. After doing so I agree they don't mainly because they give off such an insignificant amount of radiation for humans to really be affected.

This is an interesting topic because I also use the microwave many times throughout the week so its something I rely on a lot. I've also heard that standing close to the microwave can harm you and even cause cancer. I agree that microwaves do not cause cancer but still give off radiation that is not healthy for you. I feel the microwave is too small to do significant harm like cause cancer. Since there are many different myths about microwaves, here is an article outlining 11 myths and facts about microwaves.
