My name is Matthew Botbyl, and I am a freshman from New Jersey. I'm taking this course because it fulfills part of my science requirement. Also, I use Rate My Professor religiously, and Andrew has gotten some great reviews. Even though I would greatly enjoy being a science major, I'm not planning on being one. I love science, and I always have. I am passionate about science concepts, particularly evolutionary biology and astrobiology. However, despite my enjoyment of these subject, I am seriously bad at the mathematics that they involve. For example, I am familiar with evolutionary biology, but if I had to study the chemistry and numbers behind a specific organism, I would fail pretty badly. I wish this weren't the case, but it is. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to SC 200 and a great semester learning from Andrew.

Here is a link to reddit's r/science subreddit (it's got some interesting stuff)

Hey Matthew,
I'm always browsing Reddit, especially science related subreddits, or r/awww, but I was actually reading an article I saw about how science is portrayed in the news:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/2012/10/04/f-crowe-studies-false.html

I believe this article is pertinent to this class because a lot of us will learn science through news, social media and even television.
