Hot Sauce

Hot sauce is hands down, easily one of the best inventions in the world and I'm sure not many would disagree with me. But did you know that it's not only delicious, but also great for you? In addition to making food taste better, it generally only contains about six calories per tablespoon, and boosts your metabolism.
Because hot sauce is made from chilli peppers, it has other health benefits. Chili peppers contain a lot of vitamins C and A, which have been known to help prevent cancer, wrinkled skin, high blood pressure and common colds.
Other, not so positively true health benefits include improving heart health, stimulating circulation, and relieving migraines.
"Don't stop until you feel the burn," says Jessica Lymberopoulos when asked how much hot sauce it takes to see these effects. Of course, that isn't a scientific answer but I'm sure there's one out there somewhere. NbcNews tells us that hot sauce doesn't necessarily have all these benefits but it does help curb appetites, which may lead to weight loss.
Dr. Spiro Antoniades, an orthopedic surgeon from Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, decided to try something in his daily routine. Every time he found himself craving cookies or something unhealthy, he would take a shot of hot sauce. This made the sweets less desirable to him and eventually he noticed himself losing weight because he no longer wanted those unhealthy snacks. Although this is seen as a behavior modification, it really was because of the hot sauce. Many other health benefits can be found here, so drink up! Well, not necessarily, but try it on everything!

I'm not a hot sauce type of person but this was really interesting. I liked the diet part. In this day and age people are willing to try the most ridiculous diets to lose weight. I'm not saying this is one of them because I can say that if every time I got hungry I took a shot of hot sauce, I wouldn't eat much at all. There is one benefit to hot sauce that you didn't mention that I think exists. It isn't necessarily a health benefit but it does take away some discomfort away when you have a stuffy nose. If you're interested in what makes your mouth feel so hot or why it makes your nose clear up here's an article I found that explains it pretty well. http://mentalfloss.com/article/28922/why-do-spicy-foods-make-your-nose-run

Woah, I always thought hot sauce was bad for your health! I mean, that never stopped me from using it with my food. I really like to use hot sauce when I have a cold because it clears up my nose and makes me not feel like death for a little while. I also have an issue where I'm always craving sweets so maybe I should try taking shots of hot sauce. It sounds delicious! This website here talks about the benefits of hot sauce and how salsa has similar effects. http://www.hotsauce101.com/unique-benefits.html

I used to be super anti-hot sauce because I am really bad at handling spicy foods and to be honest the stuff just scared me. However recently I've become obsessed with buffalo chicken dip, and it definitely made me willing to try hot sauce with more things just because of how much I love the dip. I actually kind of think the diet that the doctor did with hot sauce isn't a bad idea! I don't know if I'd be brave enough to do it but it definitely seems like it'd be effective. This girl wrote a pretty interesting article about her opinion of the hot sauce diet. While she makes some good points, I still think the doctor was innovative and it obviously worked! http://maddieruud.hubpages.com/hub/Hot_Sauce_Diet

I am obsessed with hot sauce. Like I actually put it on almost everything I eat, I can’t get enough. I had no idea though that it could actually be good for me! If anything I have heard that too much spicy food can actually be a bad thing for you. Too much can lead to things like a weakened sense of taste, inflammation of the stomach lining, acid reflux, bed breath, and more. Spicier foods may be good for you but remember to keep it in moderation. Hot sauce does curb your appetite! That's why you always hear about celebrities doing the Master Cleanse. The cayenne pepper lemonade is the only thing you consume for the 10 days of the cleanse (with water in between dosages of the lemonade to keep you hydrated). The citrus of the lemonade is supposed to boost your alkaline balance, the cayenne pepper attempts to curb your appetite since you do not eat food on the diet, and the maple syrup provides calories so your body has some source of fuel. Definitely doesn't seem like a great idea to go on the diet, but you're right! Hot sauce/spices are a way of curbing someone's appetite.

I am obsessed with hot sauce. I'm not kidding when I say I put it on almost everything. I even dip my apples in sriracha. It sounds so weird I know, but it's delicious in my opinion. I make a lot of sauces using sriracha and hot sauce. This link has some really good recipes for it too! I used to hate hot sauce but one morning I accidentally grabbed it instead of ketchup, and I've been in love ever since!

From my personal experiences, I can say that I put hot sauce on just about everything and fall in love every time. It's so delicious. I prefer Frank's Red Hot. I even used to carry a small bottle with me in high school to cover the bland cafeteria food with. It's just a bonus for me to know that it has benefits! Definitely one of the healthier condiments!

I have never really been a fan of very hot foods or hot sauce. But after seeing these benefits which it can provide to me I may start using hot sauce on some foods. Despite the burn.

I love hot sauce! My dad's philosophy is similar to the one in your article, but instead of "don't stop until you feel the burn", it's "don't stop until you're crying or sweating bullets". One time, he bought a bottle called "Tears of Hiroshima"- I kid you not. And despite the awful name, it was one of the best and worst things I had ever eaten in my life. Here's an article from CNN with some more benefits, including aiding digestion. http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/blogs/paging.dr.gupta/2007/01/theres-more-to-hot-sauce-than-just.html
