Coffee or Tea?

Many people debate this topic each morning. Both have many health and beauty benefits, but which one is really better for you over all?

Coffee has many benefits regarding to health, beauty, and protecting from diseases and even depression. According to SELF , "Coffee may protect against skin cancer, according to one study, by absorbing harmful rays and promoting cell repair. Another study found that a cup a day lowered the risk of non-melanoma skin cancer by nearly 11 percent." In addition to amazing health benefits, coffee can also have an affect on your skin. It is said that having a cup of coffee can decrease cellulite because the caffeine increases microcirculation which helps smooth the surfaces of skin. SELF also claims that , "A study found that drinking three cups of coffee daily lowered women's relative risk of depression by 15 percent; 20 percent for those who nabbed a fourth cup." Its amazing how even one cup of coffee a day can do all of this and much more!

Tea is equally as impressive when it comes to its many benefits. SELF says, "Tea contains killer antioxidants. Green tea is thought to contain the highest concentration of polyphenols, antioxidants that neutralize free radicals, which damage cells and contribute to cancer. They protect against skin damage, too!"  In addition to preventing cancer, it can also prevent Parkinson's disease. Green tea's phytochemicals protect neurons that produce dopamine in the brain, which may help prevent Parkinson's disease.

For beauty benefits from tea, Jones says that, "Whether it is stress or your pores need some purging, sip away calmly knowing your skin will clear up. Green tea contains catechins which is known to help the reduction of sebum glands by regulating hormonal levels."  Jones also says that "There is nothing cute about a bloating and gas infused tummy. This can come from a number of things. Green tea will help keep your digestive system moving and it aids in weight loss. With eating clean and drinking tea, the slim waste line will trump the bloating in no time." Those are just a couple of the beauty benefits that tea has.

So lets answer the question. Which one is better for you really, coffee or tea? The answer is BOTH. Coffee and Tea balance eachothers benefits out, so it is hard to tell which is truly better for you than the other. It is important to drink a cup of either one of these beverages a day to get your health, mind, and beauty in tact.

I enjoyed this blog beacuse am guilty of heavily drinking both! Coffee is such a life saver for me on a daily basis, but tea is has its own good benefits. Although, according to

Many teas are naturally caffeinated, which can make you feel alert, but also may be problematic because caffeine is a natural diuretic. Drinking more than one to two cups of coffee per day can have a diuretic effect, making you lose water too quickly. While you need to drink more water to dilute the minerals in your urinary tract and prevent kidney stones, drinking too much tea can cause you to lose fluids more quickly than can be beneficial to your kidneys, according to the National Kidney & Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse.

If you are prone to kidney stones, drink tea as an occasional treat instead of an everyday occurrence. Instead, increase your intake of water and lemonade, which contains citric acid that helps to inhibit kidney stone formation. If you do this in combination with reducing oxalates in your diet, you can lower your risk for kidney stones.

I think this is interesting for me to read because I am probably in the .00001 percent of Americans that drinks neither. I probably have a 3 cups of tea per year, and that is even pushing it. I think the determining factor in which one may be better or worse for you is the harmful effects of each. While you discussed the positive effects of coffee and tea, you did not cover the negative effects. As Kasey Stated, tea has natural caffeine, which can lead to dehydration and further kidney problems. However, coffee has a significantly larger amount of caffeine in an average cup. Other than physical problems, drinking multiple cups of coffee everyday can lead to a caffeine addiction, something that tons of coffee drinkers suffer from. In addition, the caffeine among other ingredients in tea and coffee can lead to things like anxiety, higher blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, and even a higher risk of obtaining osteoporosis. SInce coffee seems to contain more of these harmful ingredients, i believe coffee is the less healthy beverage. To learn more, read:

I am a huge coffee fanatic. All I drink is coffee and I HATE tea. I have tried tea a few times when I have been sick and each time I have no been able to drink the full cup. It isn't sweet enough and doesn't have enough taste in general. I always hear from my mom that tea is better than coffee. She is on crazy diets all the time and says that green tea is the best for you because it cleanses your system and doesn't have dairy in it. So I looked on my own after reading your article and found an article on ( This article says that coffee has been said to reduce risk of Parkinson's disease, liver cancer, gallstones, and type 2 diabetes. But the article also says that white and green tea are known to have benefits. The author says that if you have the choice, tea is better because it reduces antioxidants. But tea is not better by much. So if you are a coffee drinker, don't have more than four 8-ounce cups (because it may raise blood pressure) and you'll be fine.

I am a tea drinker! I didn't realize that coffee actually had health benefits as well as tea, until reading your blog! I was always under the impression that the high levels of caffeine in coffee did nothing good for you and that it was strongly advised to not drink more than one cup a day. However, I can see how this would be true. Coffee is natural, it grows from the ground, just like the different ingredients used to make tea. With this fact alone, I can see how coffee really isn't that harmful for you. However, there are tons of things that are naturally occurring in the environment that are dangerous (poisonous plants). This may be where I subconsciously steer away from coffee. Tea really captures my interest and taste buds because there are so many different kinds that are proven to promote health. For example, white tea has been proven to have the most properties that prevent cancer! Like you mentioned, the benefits of green tea are endless. The most prominent being the high levels of EGCG that prevent cancer as well, unclog arteries, and reduce the risks of getting a neurological disorder.
