Uncertain about Science

Hi everyone! My name is Eleni De Castro and I'm from Dominican Republic. Contrary to popular belief, I do not sleep on a hammock (although this doesn't look too bad)

or live right at the beach; but I do go quite often.

I'm planning on majoring in print journalism and hope to become a writer some day. Most people find this somewhat strange seeing as English isn't my first language, but I guess I enjoy writing in another language because it makes me feel a little more detached from my work. My biggest writing inspiration is Gabriel Garcia MarquezIf you haven't, you should check him out. I promise you will not be disappointed.

I have four siblings and enjoy travelling more than anything. As cliche as it my sound, experiencing different cultures is an unparalleled experience.

I have to be honest and say I've never liked science. I'm not really a fan of equations or anything to do with numbers and memorizing facts about elements. I enjoy thinking freely and creative writing. Although from what Andrew has said in the past classes, there's some of that in Science too. I could still be swayed. Like almost everyone here, my counselor suggested this class to fulfill my Gen Ed requirements and so far I haven't felt disappointed. The upcoming topics sound interesting, especially since I feel a lot of them could be related to philosophy, which I really enjoy.

Hi Elani! I think that's really cool what you said about enjoying to write in your second language. And I toally know what you mean about the language allowing you to be "detached".
This is going to sound odd, but whenever I'm stressed I think in Spanish. I am in no way fluent, but I find that it simplifies things. Maybe people have the ability to compartmentalize languages differently in their brains?
I found this and thought it might be interesting to you:
