Pleasure from PAIN ;)

WATCH THE VIDEO

So like any curious passerby, I saw this on my Facebook news feed and I clicked it because the goofy black guy promised sheer amusement. I didn't even bother to read the caption. The first time I watched, I was confused and thinking that the lizard was fake or something. Second time, nope it was real. By the third, view I knew the song and I was utterly appalled at the fact that the sheer brutality of the act had me helplessly laughing. Turns out there's a term for that guilty amusement I found in that poor lizards untimely death.

SCHADENFREUDE... It's German and without English translation. I was just happy to find that research shows that it's not necessarily a bad thing to derive joy from someone/something else's.  Simply an evolutionary sense of satisfaction and competition at the fact that it wasn't us and it's one less person to worry about taking what we believe is ours.

Competition Eliminated = Good Feeling ... Is it wrong? Don't we strive for reproduction of the fittest?

This blog certainly proved to be interesting! I started watching it in the same way you did, not really believing that he just ate a lizard. The second time around, I felt nauseous. It didn't make me laugh, but I can sympathize with pain being funny. When people fall, it is hilarious to me. I especially love when young kids fall. It is a very guilty pleasure. Thanks for the entertainment! Check out my latest blog post, I actually think it's really interesting

After reading your title and then watching the video and looking at the pictures you put on your blog I was completely baffled as to what the heck your blog was about. Thankfully I then proceeded to read the text that you had included and it made A LOT more sense. I didn't think it was that funny, mostly because in my country people eat chocolate covered crickets.
(check it out: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/77703) I sort of just thought to myself, "That can NOT be healthy..."
Regarding your point of deriving joy from someone else's pleasure, I agree that there is no real correlation. However, there have been studies that relate the same topic to murderers. While I do not think that you are going to go out and shoot an undescribable number of people in a couple years, it is still interesting to see how it comes up with other people.
