why do kids smoking? Many kids fall in love with tobacco, in nowadays society. Do they know about smoking?

A survey show that : In recent years , the smoking rate of children who are under the age of 16 , increased. Nearly, 30%. ( From China Daily)

Kids might be drawn to smoking and chewing tobacco for any number of reasons -- to look cool, act older, lose weight, win cool merchandise, seem tough, or feel independent.

But parents can combat those draws and keep kids from trying -- and getting addicted to -- tobacco. Establish a good foundation of communication with your kids early on to make it easier to work through tricky issues like tobacco use.( From KidsHealth Website)

Cigarettes contain more than 4000 chemical compounds and at least 400 toxic substances.

When you inhale, a cigarette burns at 700°C at the tip and around 60°C in the core. This heat breaks down the tobacco to produce various toxins.

As a cigarette burns, the residues are concentrated towards the butt.

The products that are most damaging are:

  • tar, a carcinogen (substance that causes cancer)
  • Nicotine is addictive and increases cholesterol levels in your body
  • carbon dioxide reduces oxygen in the body
  • components of the gas and particulate phases cause chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD).
  • the number of cigarettes smoked
  • whether the cigarette has a filter
  • how the tobacco has been prepared.

HI Shuqi,
I really appreciated your blog post. I honestly do not understand why young people start smoking on a regular basis especially since today we are so far advanced in society that we are well informed about the risks of lighting up. I spent last year living in western France and something that hit me hard was how many students stood outside the school and smoked before, during and after. The ones that I got to know I eventually asked if they were afraid of the side effects of smoking and they all responded that they did not care. Because obviously lung cancer is something to be taken lightly (that was sarcastic). Today 18.7 % of high school seniors are smokers, according to the Thenewyorktimes">http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/01/for-teenage-smokers-removing-the-allure-of-the-pack/">Thenewyorktimes
This is half of what it was in 1996 when 36.5% of high school seniors were smokers. So we are apparently going in the right direction, let's just hope teens continue to follow the trend.

Thanks for your commment. The reality always shocks us a lot.....
