Initial Blog Post for SC200!

Hello everyone! My name is Erica Martin.  I am a sophomore here at Penn State from San Diego, CA.  Although I am currently in the Division of Undergraduate Studies program (DUS), I plan on entering the Smeal College of Business after this year.  All throughout my years of schooling science has never really been one of my main interests.  It is not that I necessarily dislike science at all, but rather that I have other interests that seem to come before it.  I decided to major in business because I think it is a very useful major that can offer a lot of diverse job opportunities in the future.  This is especially good for me as I am still unclear as to what I would like to do as a profession.  I would, however, like to use my business education from Penn State and eventually connect it to my love of the arts, perhaps owning my own company or studio someday.  I have been dancing since the age of 5 and have been involved in dance, theatre, and choir groups all throughout high school and college.  This is another area that I am very interested in, clearly far away from the subject of science though.

On campus, I am involved in my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, am a part of the Penn State Ballet Club, Volé, and am a member of the Blue and White Society.  In addition, I am hoping to become a part of the Smeal Student Society (S3) this semester.  I am excited to be in this science class because I think it will be very different than science classes I have taken in the past and I feel as though it will help me appreciate science a lot more than I have in the past.  Although I am taking this course simply to fulfill a General Education Science credit, I chose this class specifically because I have heard great things from other students about SC 200 as a whole and about Andrew as a professor.  So far I like the idea of blogging and have found Andrew's lectures to be interesting and engaging.  I am excited to spend the rest of the semester in this class with you all and am eager to read the blogs to find out what you all are interested in as well!
