Gaming:food for the brain?

Yes, it is clear that many teenagers like to spend about 90% of their days playing endless hours of video games. What is also clear though, is that video games are actually beneficial to your health in some aspects. (this does not mean stop going to the gym and stop eating healthy) Video games are popular world wide, with many choices of games and even "machines" there is almost always a game that you can find interesting to play. Although, a lot of the games that are being played now-a-days have to do with killing people (or zombies) or stealing cars and paying for prostitutes along the streets. What studies do show though, is that there are actually many benefits to playing video games; mostly having to do with the brain and reflexes.

Motor skills can be improved, research has shown that those that play interactive games have beter motor skills when it comes to kicking, catching, and throwing a ball. It was also said that kids with better motor skills are the ones that have been playing interactive video games for a long time.

A study done by the American Pain Society showed that video games and virtual reality experiences can be a helpul tool with pain that adults and children may be suffering. Studies from Keele University found similar conclusions, but they also said that those playing violent video games have been found to have better/higher pain tolerance. All of these studies, plus more have shown that eye sight can be improved, reaction time is made quicker, and even some illnesses were made more bearable because of the effects video games have on the mind and body.

So next time you feel like playing Call Of Duy  is a total waste of time think to yourself "this game is actually improving my well-being".

I think its amazing how video games are looked down upon when they can have these positive impacts. The ability to relieve pain by playing video games was astonishing to me so I read more and found that it is because when we are focused in on the game, our attention is on the game and not the pain. We tend to forget about the pain because we are so entangled in the game we are playing.
