Facebook stalking: everyone does it!

There are two types of people in this world: people who creep on their ex's Facebook pages, and liars. I know I speak for most (if not all) of us when I say that after I break up with a significant other, I like to look at their Facebook every so often just to see what they've been up to, if they've posted any depressing status's about me, or if they've been hanging out with any new
girls. But a recent study has been done showing that Facebook stalking your ex won't help you get over them. (Shocker, I know!) In this study, researchers gathered 464 participants, most of whom were college-aged females, and evaluated the relationship between how often they look at their ex's page and their current distress over the break up. It showed that the more they creeped on their ex, the more likely they were to miss their ex, be hung-up over the break up, have negative feelings towards their ex, and/or have lower personal growth.

So if you shouldn't creep on your ex's page, then you should just delete them as a friend to avoid temptation then, right? Well researchers also found that this might not be the best idea either. The same associations with stalking were true here too, and even intensified in some areas.
I'm not sure how reliable this study is - the correlation may not equal the causation. Excessively stalking your ex on Facebook probably isn't the only reason why you're having trouble getting over him/her, although it might have something to do with it. Regardless, if you're trying to get over someone, stalking them via the internet is not the best way to go about it!
