Did you have your breakfast today?


     In the past one month, I've seriously realized the importance of having breakfast.

   Because my first class begins from 8:00am, and I am actually a lazy person...I'd rather sleep a little more time than getting up early to have breakfast. And also, I want to control weight without eating breakfast. However, I have to pay for this action.breakfast.jpg

   I found that I began to feel  stomach-ache frequently. And I feel dizzy all day and hard to focus on study.  I started to wonder if it is because I don't have the breakfast?? Did you have the same feeling with me?

    All of the info I found on the internet told me that "Breakfast is the most important meal during the day", it provides fuel  for people to do other things.

    A study shows that ," children who eat a good breakfast tend to perform better in school, and have a better attendance and decreased hyperactivity. Children who don't eat breakfast tend to perform not as well, and also tend to have behavior problems such as fighting, stealing, and not listening to their teachers (Dr. Ronald Kleinman, Harvard Medical School)."

   Though, I don't think that breakfast can do with the behavior problems as fighting and etc, but having breakfast is truly important.

   It can ensure the efficiency of study and work. If you consider that when we wake up in the morning, for the majority of us, our body and brain have been without food for around 10 - 12 hours and for children it may be longer. Our body is similar to a car in the fact that it needs fuel to run, and like a car, the better you look after your body, the longer and better it will run. Our bodies must be fueled several times each day so that we function efficiently and carry out our daily tasks as best we can.

    In the morning, after many hours without food, it is essential to refuel in order to provide the necessary nutrients and energy to get us through the first part of the day.

    And I also learned that not having breakfast is not equal to lose weight . Some people skip breakfast in an effort to loose weight, but the practice is more likely to cause weight gain than weight loss. "If you don't eat anything in the morning, you will most likely find yourself craving something sweet to eat, as your body cries out for a quick fix to boost energy levels. If you are at work and it is not yet time for lunch, this is one of the moments when you may find yourself reaching for something very unhealthy such as a chocolate bar, croissant, cream cake or other unhealthy snacks. For those who are watching their weight, this is disastrous. It is also possible that you may become so hungry that you grab twice as many unhealthy snacks to eat before lunch or even end up eating all of your packed lunch by 11.30 am." It is right, that I always eat more than usual during the lunch time when I do not eat breakfast.

   It seems " do not having breakfast"  in the morning is totally a wrong decision.

I really like this article because it further proves to all of my friends that eating breakfast is important. I have always eaten breakfast and couldn't survive until lunch without it. Most of my friends wouldn't eat anything until 12 and were perfectly fine. I on the other hand would be insanely hungry and tired without breakfast. I could never understand why people didn't eat breakfast until I was older and saw that they wanted to lose weight and thought that the less they ate the better. I disagree with them and agree with your article. Eating breakfast causes you to be hungrier and more efficient throughout the day while not eating breakfast causes cravings and binge eating later on. I've read the aritcle you recommend, it said "egularly skipping breakfast may raise the risk of Type 2 diabetes." and this is another strong reason for us to pursuade our friends who do not eat breakfast, having breakfast is very important and can not only improve the efficiency of our study and work,but also vital to our health.

I also can't survive without eating breakfast, and I found out that skipping breakfast actually raises your cholesteral levels, and makes you more resistent to insulin. In a study done in 2007, women who ate two eggs lost 65% more weight than those who ate bagels. And 85% were more energized. So people who think they're making a smart weight loss decision by skipping breakfast...think again! In addition, it's smarter to eat 6 small meals per day rather than 3 full ones, but since partaking in large meals with friends is a huge part of socializing, does this change in eating behavior seem plausible?

Similar to you, I use to not be a fan of breakfast mainly because I never wanted to eat early in the morning when I could get some extra shut eye. When I came to college, this definitely changed; I realized that I desperately needed breakfast to be able to start my day off right and focus in all of my classes. Now that I see how much breakfast has helped me in the morning, I agree with the slogan, "breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Your findings are very similar to that of this articley. I especially was interested in the fact that skipping breakfast won't allow you to lose weight. There are so many teenagers and even adults who believe that not eating breakfast will save them calories and cut down a jean size, but this is totally false. I find that this is a common belief, but individuals need to realize that you are only hurting yourself by skipping breakfast because you are starving yourself of key nutrients early on and replacing it with, as you described, eating unnecessary calories later in the day.

I can see that eating more smaller meals throughout the day can be beneficial, but I also find it hard to believe that it is possible. As college students, we are busy people. Normally, we would not have time throughout our days to take a break and eat 5 different meals, even if it is healthier for us. Do you think that there are a lot of different outside factors that cause us to not eat as healthy as we should like our school work, social activities, etc? While I think there are a lot of excuses that we can use for things such as skipping breakfast and not eating healthy, there have to be ways to change it. Does anyone have specific pointers that could help us eat better throughout the day with such time consuming lives?

I am one of those people that don’t eat breakfast regularly. I don’t do it to lose weight though. I don’t eat breakfast because I am simply lazy. If my roommates get up and make breakfast I will eat it and maybe once a week I will make it myself but other than that I really cant bring myself to get up earlier to eat breakfast. I know that it is “important”, but I really can’t bring myself to do it. I also find that the more I eat the more I want to eat. Your body adjusts to your routine so skipping breakfast doesn’t make me hungrier at 2p.m. I am just as hungry at 2p.m regardless of whether I eat breakfast or not.

Maybe 5 different meals a day is a little bit impossible for us to accomplish. However, I still want to highlight that the breakfast is the most important. ."Do you think that there are a lot of different outside factors that cause us to not eat as healthy as we should like our school work, social activities, etc?"..Actually,I think so. I have class from 11:15 to 3:45 on Tuesday and Thursday,and only 15 minutes between each class..I really have no time to deal with my lunch. Maybe we can skip lunch..?..Cuz I don't find any articles that claim Lunch is vital to our health.
