Are You Getting Facebook Fat

The college kids is infamous for tweeting or constantly checking their Facebook. More and more time gets devoted to social media in order to "stay in contact"..Well according to a study done by the British Psychological Society's Division of Health Psychology the more time you spend of Facebook the more time you spend getting fat. The study polled 350 college kids, the most active kids spent the least amount of time on social networks, while the least active spent more time on social networking sites.

Now to me these results cannot not be that surprising. Is our society really that dumb to think the kids like me that spend more time on Facebook aren't going to get fat. Obviously if someone is going out and exercising more than sending another stupid tweet that the world could care less about. The problem I have with this is that this is big news apparently. Everyone knows that less activity makes you fat. The kid at the gym obviously gonna be more fit than the kid sitting on their ass trying to decide which picture should be their profile picture.

The study of prayer and healing was deemed to not need to waste more money on the study, but I think that this study is a waste. A 4 year could tell you that there is only so much time in the day and that if you are on Facebook than that comes at the cost of other activities. The logic is so simple I don't know why anyone would think they need to research it,let alone need further research. To the scientist out there that led this study i will say GET A NEW PROJECT. WE ALREADY KNEW THIS!

Although this may seem obvious, there are still variables that aren't accounted for. For example, a child who does not engage in social networking but has worse eating habits than those who are social networking are still at risk for obesity. In addition, those who exercise regularly in addition to social networking may not become obese. Also, health factors such as sickness and medications can be a source of weight gain. While the study sounds interesting, there are many variables that are unaccounted for. Thus, i dont see how social networking has a direct correlation to weight gain.

Do you think possibly that being fat or obese causes one to be more incline to using social networking for the simple fact that they are embarrassed to be seen in public and so choose to be social through these networks?
