A Brief Introduction

Hi, I'm Leah Mothersbaugh, a sophomore and probably art history major here at Penn State. I've always felt connected to the freedom, expressionism, and individuality of art, music and culture. I love painting and drawing, yet am equally interested in other works of art, both past and present, and their importance and influence (which is why I want to major in art history haha). I love folk rock and bluegrass music (Bob Dylan, CCR, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Neil Young, Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons, Avett Brothers, Old Crowe Medicine Show, etc.) and live performances are my favorite. About a year and a half ago I taught myself how to play guitar on my brother's old acoustic. I'm really not a very good guitar player, but I think it's fantastic and expressive, and I have so much fun learning tabs and singing songs by my favorite artists.

Lastly, I love travel, food, and foreign language. I have taken years of Spanish classes, with a little background in French and Italian. In the future, I hope to really see the world, and to experience it's rich cultures and traditions.

I don't necessarily dislike science. I've had some great science related experiences in hands-on museums, environmental field trips, and high school chemistry classes. Yet, I've never felt connected to it in the way that I feel connected to art or music. I'm not sure I have the same natural understanding for it. On the flip side, there also have been times when science has just seemed dry and uninteresting.

Nevertheless, I'm really excited to be taking this class. I've heard a lot of great things about it from both students and faculty, and I hope to learn a lot from the experience. This class is about critical thinking, and I have to say, that's something I'm really excited about.

Hi Leah,

Just a reminder to make sure you include a live link in this initial blog post!

Email me if you have any questions on how to do so!

Rachel

Hey Leah! I enjoyed reading your blog entry because we have similar interests. Seeing your music interests, you might also like this song called "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver, or maybe you've heard it before.

Hey Leah!
I really liked your blog and we definitely have a lot of common interests. I also enjoy art history, specifically renaissance to modern. In terms of music you should really check out Bombay Bicycle Club (if you haven't already), I feel like they're a similar feel to what you've listed in your entry.
