Student Blogs

Weblogs as a genre are more informal and immediate than most other forms of technical writing. The purpose of this assignment is to use that informality, as well as the capacity for linking to a variety of online media, to encourage you to think reflectively about the topics being discussed in the class, but also to engage more thoroughly with your own disciplines and the role writing will have in your professional lives.

You have some degree of latitude with the blogging assignment. Often, you'll be asked to choose a topic within a framework that relates to the topic we are studying in class (see prompts below).  You may want to take into account the issues discussed in this grading rubric as you draft your entries. I will assign a grade for this component of the course (10% of final grade) near the end of the term, once all posts have been made. Of course, if you have concerns about your work in this part of the course and would like more feedback than I've given, stop by for a conference.

Keep track of your work, including comments, using this sheet, which you will turn in at the end of the term.

Creating a Blogging Community

Each time you write a blog entry, I also will ask that you respond to at least one of your classmates' entries.  In this way, we'll ensure that you have an audience for your writing and we'll create a community readers and thinkers focused around the issues discussed in the blogs. You can get to your classmates' entries by clicking on the appropriate aggregation (links above), or on a particular student's blog/website (links below).

*Tags for Aggregating Blogs
When students tag their blog entries, it allows us to collect them in one place (on a tag aggregation page). Make sure each of your blog posts has the appropriate tag  so that I and your classmates can read and respond to them more easily.
